Utd Owen Michael now

MichaelOwen-ManUtdkit-_2324976Michael Owen is set to become a Manchester Utd player today in the biggest shock of the transfer window so far. The move comes after Owens Newcastle contract expired this week. Owen has been actively looking for a new club since the last day of the season when the geordies were relegated to the championship.

Sir Alex Ferguson made his move for the England hitman yesterday and it looks like he may have gotten him after Owen passed a stringent medical at Utd’s Carrington training ground today. Ferguson has pinched Owen from under the noses of Stoke, Aston Villa and Hull City who had all shown an interest in injury plagued striker.

It could turn out to be a great move for Owen but many Utd fans aren’t happy with the idea of a former Liverpool player turning out in their famous red strip next season. The fact that Owen is signing for the Red devils won’t go down well in Merseyside either with many Liverpool fans already saying that he is a traitor and that his best days are behind him. Owens descision to join his former clubs fiercest enemies will feel like another slap in the face to the Kop faithful after the way in which he left for Real Madrid in 2005.

It is a move that has shocked the Premier league and it is a massive gamble by Alex Ferguson if you consider Owens recent form and the shopping list of injuries he has picked up since the World Cup in 2006. If Owen can slip back into his old groove with Wayne Rooney it can only benefit Utd but that is of course if they can keep him fit.

Only time will tell if this is a good move for either Owen or Utd but one thing that can be said is that this news has rocked the Premier League to its foundations and as always Alex Ferguson is the man that has done it.
